Captain Baba Harbhajan Singh was born in a small village in Punjab. He joined the Indian Army in 1956 and served as a soldier in the 23rd Punjab Regiment. He was posted at Nathu La Pass, which is known for its difficult weather conditions and difficult terrain. The pass has always been a difficult place for soldiers throughout history. Sadly, while serving at Nathu La Pass, Captain Baba Harbhajan Singh met with an unfortunate accident in 1968. He was leading a group of mules carrying supplies when they had a tragic accident and were drowned in a glacial stream.
