OPERATION RAJIV - IN THE SIACHEN GLACIER
Summary Paramveer Captain Bana Singh, a resident of RS Pura, Jammu, told about Operation Rajeev which ended on 26 June. Said that the enemy is at height. Our activities were under his supervision. Pakistani army was firing from helicopter to other activities. Even after this the Pakistanis were driven out. Expansion By occupying the highest and strategically important peak of Siachen, the Pakistani army was disrupting the activities of the Indian army. He declared the peak as a prison post named after Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah. In May 1987, Lt. Rajeev Pandey and his patrol unit were attacked by Pakistani troops and several soldiers, including Pandey, were killed. Thereafter the 8 Jack Lai Battalion was given the task of re-capturing the enemy from the captured post, which was named Operation Rajeev after Lt Pandey.
