WARRIORS OF THE 1947 - INDO PAKISTAN WAR

A few months after independence in 1947, Pakistani tribesmen attacked Kashmir. The number of tribals supported by the Pakistan Army was very high. Compared to them, the number and equipment of Indian soldiers were less. Despite that the Indian soldiers fought bravely and finally forced the Pakistani intruders to retreat. Let's begin with the true story about the Indian heroes of 1947 Indo Pakistan War.

The year 1947 has been full of tragedies. The biggest tragedy of the century was the partition of the country. The pain of partition had not even subsided that meanwhile on 21st October 1947 Pakistani tribesmen attacked Kashmir. The invading tribesmen had the support of the Pakistan Army. In view of Pakistan's attack, the then King Hari Singh of Kashmir sought India's help. India had put a condition of merger for help. Raja Hari Singh agreed to Kashmir's accession to India to save Kashmir from tribal attacks. After the Instrument of Accession was signed, India sent troops to Kashmir to drive out the Pakistani tribesmen. Let us tell you today about those people who played an important role in saving Kashmir from the tribals.

Brigadier Rajendra Singh

Brigadier Rajendra Singh was the Chief of the Army of Jammu and Kashmir. His role has been most important in saving Kashmir from the tribals. In fact, when the tribals attacked, Maharaja Hari Singh ordered Brigadier Rajendra Singh to stop the tribals. With the help of about 150 soldiers and very few weapons, they held off thousands of Pakistani attackers for four days. During that time Maharaja Hari Singh got an opportunity to merge Kashmir in India and the Indian Army reached for help.

The bravery he showed to stop the tribals is unmatched. He was badly injured in the firing from the enemy side. Despite this, he kept fighting the enemy and kept the tribesmen in check. He was finally martyred on October 27, 1947. Brigadier Singh is known as the 'savior of Kashmir' among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He was posthumously awarded the first Mahavir Chakra in independent India.

Major Somnath Sharma

On November 3, 1947, Major Somnath Sharma's unit was ordered to go to the Badgam front in the Kashmir Valley. Major Somnath reached Badgam before the first rays of the sun on 3 November and deployed his troop in the northern direction by 11 o'clock in the day. Then the enemy's army of about 500 people surrounded his troop and attacked from three sides and Somnath's soldiers started getting casualties due to heavy shelling.

Showing his efficiency, Somnath kept the enemy from moving by firing bullets with his soldiers. During this, he put himself in equal danger of coming under enemy fire and with the help of cloth strips helped the airplane to reach the right target.

During this time, many soldiers of Somnath had attained Veergati and the shortage of soldiers was being felt. Somnath had an injury on his left hand and a plaster was tied on it. Despite this, Somnath himself was giving bullets to the soldiers by filling them in the magazine. Then a mortar hit exactly where Somnath was present and he was martyred in this explosion itself. He was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra by the Government of India. He is the first person to get Paramveer Chakra.

Naik Yadunath Singh

Yadunath Singh was the fourth person to receive the Paramveer Chakra. Due to his presence of mind and bravery, his post was saved from the enemies not just once but thrice. February 6, 1948 was the day. He was commanding a forward post at Taindhar. Nine people were engaged in guarding the outpost.

Meanwhile, the Pakistanis attacked to capture the outpost. Singh displayed gallantry and excellent leadership at that time. He used his small army in such a way that the enemies got confused. Enemies fled. The enemies attacked again. When all his soldiers were injured, he took the gun from the hand of a wounded gunner and attacked the enemy. This time also he saved his post.

Pakistani bombers then attacked for the third time. Now Yadunath was left alone. But he again attacked the enemy and confused them. The enemy fled but two bullets hit him in the head and chest. Soon after that this brave son of Mother India became a martyr.

Subedar Karam Singh

He played a key role when Pakistani raiders launched an attack on Richhmar Gali in Kashmir on October 13, 1948. The bunkers of the Indian platoon were completely destroyed by the heavy shelling. The means of contact with the commander was also cut off. Singh could not even tell his position to his commander so that army and ammunition and weapons could be sent to help him.

They had only one option left to fight with the help of whatever soldiers and weapons were left. Karam Singh was badly injured in this attack but his courage was not defeated. The enemy had come very close. Still, he did not run away from the post. When the enemy soldiers came too close, he jumped on them from his trench. They attacked and killed two intruders. Their attack demoralized the enemy so much that they stopped attacking.
